When it prompts for it in an "updater" that says updates are required, I can't necessarily fault my customers for updating software that is prompted when it comes from a trustworthy source like Apple, without having to babysit and receive calls/emails for every single update and install for those customers who don't pay for my automatic updates service that takes care of updating all of these 3rd party programs using ManageEngine Desktop Central automatically without interaction. The typical response to why QuickTime kept being installed on the system that I got from my customers was that "Apple told me that I needed to install it with updates". QuickTime and iCloud (I think that's what it was, or something similar) always kept showing up in the bottom list if it wasn't already installed as additional Apple (Optional? Other?) Software, or whatever they called it. What I can attest to is the Apple Updater Software constantly prompts to install other Apple software when it downloads and updates iTunes in the bottom window.
I can't answer whether or not Apple directly installs QuickTime with the iTunes installer or not, but it is a completely separate package and separate program install regardless. Probably so iTunes can play that kind of media file. But the iTunes installer installs it, too. I found a computer in my inventory software that detected Quicktime on one of the laptops that has itunesĬompletely different program, listed separately in Add/Remove. If Apple is going to discontinue it, then they better damn well make iTunes automatically prompt to UNINSTALL it as well, because that's the reason why most people I've had to remove that crap from their system ended up getting it on there in the first place!ĭoes anyone know if Quicktime is part of Itunes or a separate application? I have a few users who use Itunes, but looks like we didn't install Quicktime with it as I don't see a Quicktime folder in Program files nor my inventory software picking it up.
I got really tired of people installing it just because iTunes kept prompting for it, when there was no good damn reason for it to be installed on the system in the first place. The last time I even heard of Quicktime was when I installed Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo back in 1995.
